Dr. Irene Kamberidou
Dr. Irene Kamberidou (BA, MA, Phd), Asst. Professor of Sociology at the University of
Athens, completed her BA and MA at Emmanuel College and Boston College, Boston and
Chestnut Hill Massachusetts, USA respectively and her junior year at the Sorbonne (Paris
IV), Paris, France. Having repatriated to Greece, she completed her PhD in 2002 at the
Sociology Department of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens.
Irene is a founding member of the European Centre for Women and Technology (ECWT) and
a member of the ECWT Executive Group. She is also a member of the Hellenic Sociological
Society (HSS) and the Hellenic Professionals Informatics Society (HePIS) which is a member
of the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS). Having contributed
as a member of the Gender Expert Action Group (GEAG) in the "Consultation Workshops
on Gender and Technology" (2004-2008) of the European Commission’s Directorate-
General for Information Society and Media in Brussels (2004-2008), she continues
providing her support as a gender expert and moderator in many of the European
Commission’s high-level conferences, meetings, projects and workshops addressing
exclusionary practices.
